The partnership between Hacedores Cádiz and the Red Cross consolidates its summer dinner for people living on the streets or in substandard housing

Solidarity once again filled the courtyard of the Red Cross in Jerez with the dinner for homeless people held this Wednesday, organised by Hacedores Cádiz and the Red Cross itself: an initiative that brought together nearly a hundred people for an evening marked by dignity and social commitment.

“It has undoubtedly been the most festive edition, a wonderful opportunity to come together”, said Lola Rueda, founder of Hacedores Cádiz, who once again thanked Jerez chef Javier Muñoz, of La Carboná restaurant and a member of Hacedores Cádiz, who designed and prepared the dinner menu (scorpionfish pâté, gazpacho and roast chicken with sides). The sweet finishing touch came from the project Rota City Council's Solidarity Kitchen, which provided the dessert.

The organisers expected a large turnout, as in the previous weeks Red Cross volunteers had registered many of the people the organisation helps, either through the Social Emergency Units that tour the streets of Jerez offering urgent help and support, or through the shower and laundry service the Red Cross offers at its headquarters.

In the end, nearly a hundred people came to the Red Cross courtyard, where a welcoming and dignified space had been set up, decorated thanks to contributions from Ikea Jerez, one of the companies and organisations that collaborated on this initiative, together with Jupe Jerez and GarsilPesca, which helped supply the food. Besides the menu, participants also enjoyed an evening with music that invited celebration.

The dinner also gave rise to moving moments: «Yesterday, sitting at the same table, were three siblings living on the streets or in substandard housing, who receive help from the Red Cross and who, due to life's circumstances, had not shared a space together for a long time, and here they shared a meal together again», recalls Javier Gil, Provincial Coordinator of the Red Cross in Cádiz, who thanked Lola, Javier Muñoz and all the collaborating organisations and companies for their commitment, “which are an example that by working together, our social impact doesn't just add up, it multiplies”.
